Boxing has recently increased in popularity as an effective way to stay fit, healthy and maintain weight. You might think that boxing is a sport only for those looking to compete or for self-defence. Although, it is true there are some elements of sport and self-defence in boxing. Boxing as exercise is primarily focussed on having a great workout, that improves your cardio fitness, power and strength. But what are the benefits of boxing?

The greatest benefit to a boxing workout is how it continues to be fun and engaging. Boxing requires your complete attention and therefore makes the workout fly by.

Boxing is often performed with at a high intensity. This sometimes referred to as high intensity interval training (HIIT). Moreover, this form of exercise elevates the heart rate to a high level and is linked with a decreased risk of heart disease.

High intensity boxing training has shown to be an effective method in expending high levels of energy and therefore is useful in decreasing body fat and improving body composition.

Research has shown that involvement in boxing as exercise is a proven healthy method for managing stress.
