Telehealth Physiotherapy

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new era dawned in allied health care. The social distancing measures and forced closure of businesses meant physiotherapy practices had to improvise in order to keep patient care and safety at the forefront of our minds.

Telehealth physio or ‘online physio’ has been around since before COVID times for people who work remotely, are mobility restricted, or prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home. The demand for physiotherapy telehealth just wasn’t as high as it is now.

There have been many studies dedicated to determining the effectiveness of telehealth and the evidence suggests that telehealth physio can be as effective as in-person physio to treat a range of conditions. The only difference between online physio and face-to-face physio is the hands-on effect, apart from that, the patient will receive the same quality care through telehealth physiotherapy as they would through face-to-face.

Telehealth Pysiotherapy

at Pivotal Motion

At Pivotal Motion, we believe in an integrated approach to patient care. This means we look at all factors contributing to your injury. Whether you’re visiting us in-house or want to book a telehealth physiotherapy session, we aim to restore function by treating the source of the condition, not just the symptoms.

With our online physiotherapy consults you have access to a dedicated team of physiotherapists and exercise physiologists from the comfort of your own home, anywhere in Australia.

What is Telehealth Physiotherapy?

Telehealth physiotherapy involves the use of a computer, tablet or phone, from the comfort of your own home and without the need to travel. Our practice’s preferred method of telecommunication is using Zoom. Zoom is a face to face application that you can download easily for free on your digital device. If you do not have a device, we can take consultations over the phone.

At Pivotal Motion Physiotherapy, we can diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of conditions from soft tissue injuries to joint pain, and perform exercise sessions. For injuries and conditions that we determine cannot be treated through an online consult, we’ll ask that you visit us for in-house physio Brisbane sessions or refer you to a provider near you for your peace of mind. However, with the advancements in physiotherapy quality and research over the years, it’s unlikely that we will not be able to treat an injury through online physiotherapy.

Who is Telehealth For?

Online physio is a viable alternative for patients suffering from a range of conditions and are not able to attend a consult in person.

Book a physiotherapy telehealth session if you:

  • Live or are on a remote work assignment in a rural or remote area.
  • Have mobility restraints preventing you from travel.
  • Have unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from attending an in-person consult.
  • Are concerned about attending an in-person consult due to a crisis.
  • Have difficulty scheduling an appointment due to work and family commitments.
  • Prefer a consult from the comfort of your own home.

Exercise Physiology Online Classes

The Pivotal Motion team is also proud to offer exercise physiology classes through telehealth. Exercise physiology online classes are a very effective way to get in your gym workout from home or abroad. Our exercise physiologist can work with you one-on-one for a consult and can program further sessions for you. During the lockdown from COVID-19 we ran telehealth group fitness classes for our adolescent and seniors exercise classes and the feedback was fantastic. Exercise physiology online sessions can save you a lot of time by not having to drive to the gym or a class.

What to Expect from Your First Telehealth Physio Session?

Once you’ve made a booking online, an online physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will be touch shortly via your preferred correspondence method. You’ll be required to fill out a health screening form that details any/all issues you want to receive treatment for. After a review of your health screening, our practitioner will then determine if telehealth is suited for your condition/s. We will then work with you to schedule your first consult and/or recommend an in-person consult at Pivotal Motion or a provider near you.

Before your first session, we will work with you on any technology and physical space considerations necessary for your online physio consult. This will include video calling software, tips to improve sound and video quality, and having enough space in a quiet area to perform basic movements and exercise.

With our telehealth online sessions, you can expect:

  • A dedicated online physiotherapist or exercise physiologist.
  • The most current physiotherapy practices and exercise physiology research and treatment options.
  • Professional education and practical advice via phone and video call.
  • At-home treatment plans tailored specifically to your conditions.
  • Ample time for questions and review.
  • Follow-ups from previous sessions to see how you are progressing.
  • And more.
