Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have strength training classes that are just for teenagers?
Not currently – although our active strength classes are designed with teens and active adults in mind. Based on increasing interest from those outside the “teenager” age range, we opened these strength training classes to anyone keen to build on their existing strength, agility and endurance. We still run 1:1 or sibling sessions for children and teens as well so speak with one of our physios or EPs about what we can offer!
What are some of the benefits of Active Strength classes, rather than just going to the gym?
Our accredited Exercise Physiologists ensure correct, safe technique for strength and conditioning training. We can tailor an evidence-based approach unique for your needs – whether you have chronic conditions, pre-existing injuries, or just specific strengthening and conditioning goals. The classes are as much about learning the best ways to train for your body long term as they are about gains. We’ll help develop a lifelong form of safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness and confidence at the gym.
Why is exercise so important for young people?
Australia’s Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines recommend adolescents participate in muscle and bone strengthening activities at least 3 days per week. Resistance training can also reduce the risk of a sports-related injury (Sports Medicine Australia, 2017). For more information on the benefits of resistance training and activity for adolescents, refer to physical therapy for teens.
