If this is an emergency
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 000 now, or go to your nearest emergency department. Do not use this website, and do not wait for an appointment.
Call 000 or seek emergency care immediately if you have any of the following:
- chest pain, tightness or pressure, or difficulty breathing
- signs of stroke, such as sudden face drooping, arm weakness or difficulty speaking
- a head injury with vomiting, worsening headache, confusion, drowsiness, seizure or loss of consciousness
- severe injury, a suspected broken bone, a visibly deformed joint or limb, or uncontrolled bleeding
- sudden loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin or inner thighs, with back pain
- sudden weakness, numbness or loss of function in an arm or leg
- severe pain that is getting rapidly worse, especially with fever or feeling unwell
If you are not sure whether it is an emergency, treat it as one. You can also call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222 at any hour for health advice, or contact your general practitioner.
1. This is general information, not advice for you
The information on this website is general information written for a broad audience. It is not personal health advice. It has not been prepared with any knowledge of your health, your history, your medications, your goals or your circumstances.
Nothing on this website is a diagnosis. Reading a condition page does not tell you what is wrong with you.
2. It is not a substitute for an individual assessment
Physiotherapy diagnosis and treatment depend on assessing you as an individual: your history, a physical examination, and, where needed, imaging or input from your doctor or another health professional.
Very different conditions can cause very similar symptoms. Pain in one area can come from a problem somewhere else entirely, and serious medical conditions can present in ways that look like a common muscle or joint problem. A page on this website cannot tell the difference. Only a practitioner who assesses you can.
Do not use this website to diagnose yourself, to rule out a serious condition, or to decide you do not need to be seen.
3. Do not delay or disregard professional advice
Do not delay seeking advice from a physiotherapist, doctor or other qualified health professional, and do not disregard advice you have already been given, because of something you have read here.
If a health professional has given you advice that differs from information on this site, follow their advice. They know your situation. This website does not.
4. Exercises and activity
Any exercise, stretch, movement or self management suggestion on this website is general and may not be safe or appropriate for you. Exercise carries risk, including injury or making an existing problem worse.
Before starting any exercise described here, speak with a physiotherapist or your doctor, particularly if you have an existing injury, a heart or lung condition, are pregnant, are recovering from surgery, or have been told to limit your activity.
If any exercise causes pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, numbness or worsening symptoms, stop immediately and seek advice.
5. Individual circumstances and results
Every person is different. Conditions, recovery and response to treatment vary widely from one person to another, and depend on many factors outside our control.
Nothing on this website is a promise, guarantee or prediction about your condition, your recovery, or the results of any treatment.
6. Currency and accuracy
We take reasonable care to ensure this information is accurate when published. Health knowledge changes, pages are not updated continuously, and some content may have been written some time ago.
We cannot promise that every page is complete, current or free from error. If you believe something here is wrong or out of date, please tell us at admin@pivotalmotion.com.au so we can review it.
7. Links and references to other sources
Where we link to, quote or reference other websites, research or organisations, we do so for general information only. We do not control that material, we do not warrant its accuracy, and referencing it is not advice to you.
8. Your reliance, and your rights
Any reliance you place on the information on this website is at your own risk.
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law, that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified. You have rights under the Australian Consumer Law that we cannot take away, including the guarantee that services are supplied with due care and skill.
Where the law does allow us to limit our liability, we limit it only to the extent the law permits.
9. Talk to us
If something you have read here relates to you, the right next step is an assessment.
