What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website puts on your device when you visit it. It lets the site remember things, such as the fact that you are part way through a booking, or that you have already been shown a message. Similar technologies include local storage in your browser, and small pieces of code called tags or pixels.
Some cookies are set by us. Others can be set by another company whose service appears on our page, for example an embedded map, video or booking tool. Those are called third party cookies.
What we use cookies for
We keep tracking on this website to a minimum. We are a health service, and we are conscious that the pages you look at on our site can say something about your health. We do not want to build a profile of that, and we do not sell information about our visitors to anyone.
These are the categories of cookie that can apply to a site like ours.
Strictly necessary cookies. These make the site work. They do things like keep the site secure, remember your progress through a form or an online booking, and manage the website’s own performance and caching. They come from the website itself rather than from an advertising network. Our site runs on WordPress and is hosted by Kinsta. You cannot turn these off through us. If you block them in your browser, parts of the site, including online booking, may stop working.
Preference cookies. These remember choices you have made, such as dismissing a notice, so you are not asked again on your next visit.
Analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to see which pages are visited most and how people move through the site. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by a property identifier, which hold a randomly generated identifier for your browser, not your name, and last up to two years. We look at this in aggregate and do not use it to identify you. We also share one Google Analytics measurement with our education website, pivotalmotioneducation.physio, so we can see how many readers go on to visit the clinic; when you follow a link between the two sites an identifier is carried in the link so the visit is counted once.
Chat assistant. The chat window on our website is provided by Chatbase. It uses cookies or your browser’s local storage to keep your conversation going as you move between pages.
Advertising and remarketing cookies. These let an advertising platform show you a business’s ads on other websites. We do not use them on this website.
Third party content. Any content embedded on one of our pages from another provider, such as a map, a video or a booking tool, may set its own cookies under that provider’s own policy.
If we add advertising or remarketing cookies to this website, we will update this page before those cookies are set.
How long cookies last
Some cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser. These are session cookies. Others stay on your device for a set period so the site can recognise your browser on a later visit. These are persistent cookies. The exact lifetime depends on the cookie and on who set it.
Cookie consent
At present this website does not display a cookie consent banner.
Australian law does not require consent before a cookie is set. In the European Union and the United Kingdom, consent is required before setting any cookie that is not strictly necessary for a service you have asked for. If you are visiting from the EU or the UK, you can control cookies through your browser using the steps below.
Our analytics cookies are set without a banner. If you are visiting from the EU or the UK, or you simply prefer not to be counted, you can block them using your browser settings or Google’s opt out add on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking them will not stop the site working.
How to control cookies
You are in control of cookies in your own browser. In Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox you can:
- see the cookies a site has set and delete them
- block all cookies, or block third party cookies only
- clear cookies automatically when you close the browser
- browse in a private or incognito window, which discards cookies when you close it
Look under Settings, then Privacy, in your browser. Your browser’s help pages will have the exact steps for your version.
Blocking all cookies will affect this site. In particular, online booking and forms may not work.
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal. There is no agreed standard for how sites must respond to these signals in Australia. Because we keep tracking on this site to a minimum, our position is set out above regardless of the signal your browser sends.
Cookies and your privacy
Where a cookie collects information that can reasonably identify you, we treat that information as personal information and handle it in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and our Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, who we share it with, how to ask for access or correction, and how to complain.
Changes
We review this page at least once a year, and we update it whenever we add or remove a tool that sets cookies. The version published on this page is always the current one.
