APA Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist
Chantal is an APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist and APA Titled Musculoskeletal physiotherapist.
Chantal did her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at University of Ottawa in Canada. She has been working as in Canada since 2009 and finally decided to escape the freezing -40C and find her way to sunny Brisbane. She completed 2 Master degrees and University of Queensland in both Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy.
Why did Chantal want to do physiotherapy?
Chantal was born and raised in a small town in the far north Canada, right next to Alaska, where the culture revolved around sports and active living. Always being involved in sports from childhood, Chantal’s obvious career path was to continue in sports. Since she spent so many hours with her own physiotherapist through her years of competing, she knew exactly what she wanted to get into. Chantal’s other passion is travelling. Since physiotherapy could get her anywhere in the world, she thought it would be a great way to combine both passions into her career. She has already had the opportunity to work in a community rehabilitation centre in Mexico where she learned to speak Spanish, she has used her French in a medical project in Africa, and now she is trying to learn “Australian” in Brisbane.
Chantal’s sports life
Chantal spent a few years in gymnastics in her early childhood. As a young teenager, she turned into a soccer player, participating at national and international competitions. When winters came around, she spent her time at ski hills shredding on both her skis and snowboard, She now has her coaching certifications in both soccer and snowboarding.
When Chantal moved to Australia to further her sports physiotherapy career, she fully embraced the Australian sports culture, switching from skiing and ice hockey to playing AFL, rugby and surfing. Although she fully admits she is a terrible surfer! As a much more talented snowboarder, she loves to have a chat about all the hidden trails at the different ski hills in Canada: If you have ever been to any Canadian ski resort, she has probably been there as well!
She is experienced in treating sports injuries, from weekend-warrior to the professional athlete especially in the football codes and swimmers. She particularly enjoys working on shoulders, knees and ankles. If your goal is to get back to your activities, Chantal would love to help you get there!
When she is not busy living and breathing sports, Chantal spends some time teaching at Griffith University, trying to inspire the bright young minds that Sports Physiotherapy is the best job in the world.
